Telecommunications Engineer This role involved the installation of data, voice and
video cables, termination of the cables into patchboard panel cabinets for a
Local Government Datacentre. Production
Operative (Short-term contract) This was a temporary contract that involves the testing
& stripping down of Hewlett-Packard laptops in order to salvage the useable
parts & identify the faulty parts, e.g. CPUs, hard disk drives, sodimm
cards etc. After they are stripped down,
they are packed into anti-static bags and cartons with an identifying barcode
label attached to the carton and the part numbers are then entered into the

Mynach Materials Handler (Short-term sickness cover) My duties here were the packing & dispatch of
finished products to customers throughout the U.K. and overseas, the receipt of
materials from suppliers, checking part numbers and quantities against the
inbound manifest & locating material in the warehouse using a manual stock
location system.
1996-2004 PPS Communications (Southwest) Ltd Bridgend Senior
Engineer. I was initially employed with this mobile phone repair
and installation company as a repair technician, responsible for the repair (to
component level) of ETACS/GSM mobile phones. I was then given responsibility for the
Vodafone ERF contract (this involved the refurbishment and repair of mobile
phones returned under the Vodafone 14-day replacement warranty), I liaised with
Service Providers when equipment exchanges were necessary and generated fault
& service reports. I was eventually
promoted to the position of Senior Engineer; this position involved the
day-to-day running of the repair, installation and I.T. departments. I built and maintained the Company computers
and peer-to-peer network, liaised with manufacturers warranty departments for
training, technical auditing and disseminating repair information. When necessary, I undertook the repair of
GSM/PCN mobile phones, trained new employees and dealt with customer
queries. I also arranged (and on
occasion undertook) the installation and servicing of customers’ handsfree
carkits into their vehicles. 1996
PC Diagnostics Ltd
Bargoed Repair Tech. (Short term contract) This temporary position involved the repair of PC’s,
computer monitors, printers etc. for various organisations and members of the
general public in the 1990-1995 Honkytonk Women. Road Manager. This enjoyable interlude entailed driving the groups’
van to various venues, interacting with the management and staff of the venue,
unloading and setting up the equipment and managing the sound and lights during
the performance of the 4 piece, all-girl rock/cabaret groups’ act. I also repaired and maintained the amplifiers
and lighting controller. 1988-1990

Bench/Field
Tech. I was mainly involved in the servicing and repair of
private mobile radio equipment in the workshop but also, on occasion, went into
the field to install or service the equipment for major contracts. 1979-1987
STC Plc Treforest Fault
Diagnostician. Initially, this national company employed me to diagnose
the faults on TXE2 and TXE4 telephone exchange modules, later we acquired a
contract to test and repair other electronic equipment, most notably the
computers known as OPD (One Per Desk) which were an early form of IBM
compatible PC. I also assisted with the
training of new employees and in the maintenance and development of the prototype
automatic tester known as the C.U.T (Combined Unit Tester). 1975-1977

and Bedwas Colliery Electrician. After I completed my apprenticeship in Bedwas Colliery, I transferred to Penallta Colliery where I performed the duties of a colliery electrician, which were the installation, maintenance and repair of coal extraction, lighting and Intrinsically Safe signalling equipment, often supervising apprentices, wiremen and labourers. |
